The Way of the Cross Leads Home . . .this presentation with drama and choir was written for Carpenter's Way Easter 2002 by Nancy Mize, with narration by Steve Sparks. Set: This presentation includes two sets, a modern day pawn shop and the garden at the entrance of the tomb. Cast: 4 men+ 2 women + narrator A powerful presentation of hope and love for the Easter Season. Uses choir and drama, with minimum stage settings. SYNOPSIS: Through music and sound effects the crucifixion is portrayed. (Music: When I Survey the Wondrous Cross with Wonderful Cross) The first scene opens in the garden area beneath the tomb. It is Saturday evening, just before sunset. The Carpenter who built the crosses and the Artisan who fashioned the crown of thorns are drawn to the tomb area out of curiosity and for some other "unknown" reason. They are encountered by a homeless and outcast Leper woman looking for the friends of Christ. As each tells the story of their personal encounter with Christ, they each question their own existence, their own path life is taking them, and what to do next. One thing they all know for sure is that Christ was a man who did not deserve to die and that somehow he managed to touch each of them even at the moment of his greatest pain. They fall asleep in the garden. Through music (Agnus Dei) and smoke and bright lights, the tomb opens and the Resurrection occurs. The threesome awaken in the early morning hours to find the tomb empty and suddenly realize they are not safe. They set off to find the disciples to find out what really happened for in their hearts they have all three become "Christ-followers." Music: Worthy is the Lamb The second scene opens in a pawn shop in today's time. A bag lady confronted with an invitation to attend dinner at the neighborhood church by a minister in the shop has to face harsh realities that there is more to life than begging for coffee money. She attempts to sell a family heirloom, a sterling silver cross, to the Pawn Shop owner but he recognizes the value is more sentimental than monetary. He encourages her to use the resources available to find her family instead of selling the last remnant of her former life. She summons up her courage to use her cross, which led her to the pawn shop, to find her way home again. As they leave to go to the church dinner the choir begins "Draw Me Close" and the owner responds, "You won't be alone." It's a lump-in-the-throat moment when people, especially those who only attend church once or twice a year, realize it's never to late to come back to Christ. He's always waiting. Order the script here. Please note, choir music is not included. Title: The Way of the Cross Leads
