 Free Sportsman Expo Scheduled

LUFKIN, TX –January 9, 2007 – BASS and FLW Tournament Pro Fisherman Jay Yelas will be the featured speaker at the Texas Forest Country Sportsman Expo at the Pitser Garrison Civic Center in Lufkin on February 22, 2007. 

“We’re ecstatic that Yelas will be here between tournaments to share with us tips on fishing East Texas waters,” according to Cecil Jackson, event organizer. “The event will include booths featuring a full range of hunting, fishing and sporting equipment and supplies.”

After turning pro in 1988, Jay Yelas has fashioned a remarkable career as a professional bass angler. On the B.A.S.S. Tour alone, Yelas has amassed 5 victories, and 47 "top 10" finishes, the most notable being his 2002 Bass Master Classic win in New Orleans, followed by his 1995 win at the Bassmaster Superstars tournament. Proving his uncanny consistency in catching bass, Yelas has qualified for 12 consecutive Bassmasters Classics. The amicable Texas pro is currently 6th on the B.A.S.S. all-time money list, establishing himself among the sports elite.

The show will also be an opportunity for attendees to see some of the latest equipment and products for the sportsman. Products include Ranger Boats, hunting supplies, tackle, 4-wheelers and watercraft.  Booths will also feature local and saltwater guides and outfitters, including an Amazon River Peacock Bass outfitter.

Also featured will be the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Operation Game Thief (OGT) trailer. OGT is the state’s wildlife crime stoppers program where callers help solve crimes, get rewards and can remain anonymous. . This trailer is one of several around the state that provides a great tool to get the word out to the public about poaching, and how the public can be a part of recognizing and stopping these crimes.
