The Salvation Army Breaks Ground on
Day Center Expansion
LUFKIN,
TX –March 1, 2007 – The Salvation Army
today formally broke ground for a new $400,000 expansion to the Adult
Day
Center facility. The new
addition will offer 3,400 square feet of space to help accommodate
expansion of services and clients.
Situated
on two acres, The Salvation Adult Day Center was built ten years ago
and serves up to 59 people a day in 8,200 square feet.
The additional space will provide much needed multi use areas
for exercise programs, crafts, and large group activities.
Additional restrooms and an expanded laundry area are also
being added to better serve day center participants.
A mini kitchen is included and will be used for snacks and
catering. Generous
storage areas are also included.
“We’re
extremely pleased with the level of service this facility provides
to the community,” says Mark Strong, Advisory Board Chairman.
“With this greatly needed expansion, the Adult
Day
Center will be able to
serve participants in an enhanced and up-to-date facility.”
Funding for this project has been provided in part by the
T.L.L. Temple Foundation, the Shands Family,
Temple – Inland Foundation and the Kurth Foundation.
The
goals of the Adult Day Center are to provide services that will
help the older adult to remain at home and assist the caregiver. The Adult
Day
Center provides a program
of social, recreational, and health activities and services in a
group setting. The Center has a daily program of specially designed
activities which provide a sense of purpose and self-esteem for
older adults who require assistance and encouragement to stay
independent.
Participants include adults who are limited in their ability to
function independently in the community, in need of assistance with
personal care, socially isolated, confused and/or are physically
impaired.
The
Salvation Army has been providing services to the East Texas area since 1939. With the rising population of
senior adults living longer, the need for quality day care and
services for seniors continues to increase. The Salvation Army
continues to show the love of God and practical concern for the
needs of humanity without discrimination. Along with feeding the
hungry, shelter for the homeless, crisis services, spiritual
programs and Thrift Store, the Adult
Day Center
is just one of the many projects provided by The Salvation Army to
the East Texas
community.

Salvation Army Day Center is located at 305 Shands Dr in Lufkin Texas.
