FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay to Speak at Harvest Point

July 2, 2008 (Nacogdoches) Former US Congressman and Majority Leader, Tom DeLay will be speaking at Harvest Point Church on July 6th during the 10:30 AM Freedom Celebration this Sunday. He will be sharing how his commitment of his life to Christ impacted his service to his country as the Majority Leader.  The event will include Patriotic music and a mini-concert by renowned soloist Chris Holloway, who is often featured on TBN and other Christian television networks and radio.  Chris joined the staff of Harvest Point in January of this year and also works with Vision America, a national ministry headquartered in Nacogdoches.

Mr. DeLay developed a reputation while in Congress serving as a Texas Congressman as one of the most effective House Majority Whips and Majority Leaders in the history of the US House of Representatives.  As an ardent defender of the unborn and outspoken opponent of abortion, he was respected by both sides of the debate for his ability to get legislation that he favored through Congress.

On October 23rd, 2003, unreported by the press, Congressman DeLay orchestrated a solemn assembly through a joint resolution of the House and the Senate and led by the respective Chaplains of both houses.  In the Hall of the House, Senators and Representative gathered for prayer and forgiveness for more than three hours.  Many members were deeply moved by experience as Democrats, Republicans and Independents sought reconciliation with each other and with the God.

Rick Scarborough says of Tom DeLay; “It was my great privilege to pastor and live in the district which Tom DeLay served from 1990 until 2002.  We worked closely together on a number of projects and I observed a deep and rich faith in Jesus Christ, which provided the impetus to many of his greatest accomplishments during his distinguished career.  In 2003 Vision America honored Tom as our National Hero of the Faith at our annual gala in Houston attended by over 700 prominent citizens, elected officials and Pastors.  One of Tom’s lasting legacies in Congress is the Values Action Team or “VAT” which meets each Wednesday allowing pro-family leaders to meet with members of Congress and discuss issues that impact families.”

“It was my distinct privilege to be a part of the annual VAT meeting featuring about 20 Key Pro-family organizations leaders which meets every March to discuss issues that are important to Christians.”

Harvest Point Church is located 1/4 mile inside the south Loop at 2708 South Street in Nacogdoches Texas. Sunday morning Bible Study for all ages begins at 9:15 am followed by Worship at 10:30 am. Dr. Rick Scarborough is senior pastor. For more information, call the 936-569-9342.
